The Oklahoma City community is mourning the loss of a 6-year-old student who passed away following an incident involving a school bus on the city’s south side. The tragic event occurred near Southwest 51st Street and Douglas Boulevard, leaving family, classmates, and neighbors devastated.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD), the young child had just gotten off the same bus before the incident. As the bus was turning, the child, along with two other children who were nearby, ran in front of the vehicle. Authorities confirmed that the bus driver was cleared and determined not to be at fault.

Emergency responders transported the child to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, the student passed away from injuries sustained during the incident, marking a heartbreaking moment for the Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) community.

“This is a deeply tragic event,” said an OCPD spokesperson. “Our thoughts are with the child’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

OKCPS officials also expressed their sorrow, emphasizing that student safety is a top priority. The district is offering counseling and support services to students, staff, and families affected by the loss.

Neighbors have described the area as busy during school hours and highlighted the need for heightened awareness near school bus stops. City officials are reviewing safety procedures to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

Community members are encouraged to support the child’s family and to remain vigilant about safety in school zones. The Oklahoma City community continues to reflect on this tragedy and honor the memory of the young student whose life was lost far too soon.
