CLOVIS, Calif. — The Clovis community is mourning the passing of Geoffrey Bernardi, 37, who died Saturday afternoon after several days on life support following an early-morning assault near a local canal, according to his family.
Bernardi was discovered with life-threatening injuries along a canal bank in the area of Barstow Avenue and State Route 168 early Thursday morning. Police believe he had gone out for a walk from his nearby apartment shortly before the incident occurred.
First responders transported him to a local hospital, where medical teams worked to stabilize his condition. Due to the extent of his injuries, Bernardi was placed on life support. His mother, Erin Adams, later confirmed that he was pronounced deceased Saturday afternoon.
The loss has left Bernardi’s family in deep grief as they struggle to process the sudden tragedy.
“Our entire family is devastated,” Adams shared. “We are very close, and this has been incredibly difficult for all of us.”
Clovis police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and have not released details about a possible suspect. Detectives say the investigation remains active as they work to determine what happened in the moments leading up to the assault.
Bernardi was employed by the Clovis Unified School District, where colleagues and members of the school community are remembering him as a valued employee and community member.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police are asking residents in the surrounding area to review footage from home security systems or doorbell cameras that may have captured activity between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say even seemingly minor details could help move the case forward.
Anyone who may have information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Clovis Police Department at 559-324-2800.
As his loved ones grieve, Bernardi is being remembered not only for the tragedy surrounding his passing, but for the life he lived and the impact he had on those around him. His family hopes that someone with information will come forward, helping bring clarity and accountability in the days ahead.
