WHITFIELD COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities have identified three individuals who passed away following a serious traffic incident that occurred Thursday, December 4, along Interstate 75 southbound near Exit 336, according to the Whitfield County Coroner’s Office.

The individuals have been identified as Jamal Ali Omar Mitchell, 44, of Zion, Illinois; Steven Wayne Davis, 39, of Grayslake, Illinois; and Geoffrey Dejon Mitchell, 19, of Waukegan, Illinois. Officials said the identifications were made in coordination with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which continues to assist with the review of the incident.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene after reports of a major roadway collision along the interstate. Upon arrival, first responders found multiple individuals with severe injuries. Despite medical efforts, all three were pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.

The situation led to temporary traffic impacts in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 as authorities secured the area, documented evidence, and worked to safely reopen the roadway. Motorists traveling through the corridor experienced delays while crews completed their work.

At this time, officials have not released details regarding how the incident occurred or whether contributing factors played a role. Investigators say the review remains ongoing, and additional information will be shared once findings are confirmed.
