SALISBURY, Conn. — It is with profound sadness that the Salisbury School community, along with family, friends, and former students, mourns the unexpected passing of Kevin Huber, a cherished coach, faculty member, and mentor known to many simply as “Coach Hubes.” His passing has left a deep and lasting void in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
To his family, Kevin was a devoted brother-in-law and a loving presence known affectionately as Uncle Kevin. To generations of student-athletes, he was a trusted coach and teacher whose lessons extended far beyond the baseball field. Those closest to him say Kevin was not defined by a single role or title.
“When I asked my boys to describe Uncle Kevin, they said he was a coach and a teacher,” a family member shared. “Then they added, ‘He isn’t just one word… he’s everything.’”
Kevin’s love for baseball was inseparable from his love for people. Every spare moment became an opportunity to teach, encourage, or share his passion for the game—whether through an impromptu lesson, a piece of new gear, or a thoughtful conversation. Even in his final days, his focus remained on others. His last message to his nephews was about Christmas gifts, encouraging them to “dream big,” a phrase that perfectly captured his outlook on life.
Those who knew Kevin remember him as a jokester with a generous heart, someone who loved deeply and gave freely. If someone needed help, Kevin was often the first to step forward. His wide-ranging knowledge and quick wit made him a formidable presence at trivia nights and a constant source of laughter among friends. Family members fondly recall how he delighted in small, personal moments, including teasing loved ones over accents or inside jokes that became lasting memories.
At Salisbury School, Kevin’s impact was profound. A member of the faculty and coaching staff, he believed wholeheartedly that athletics were a powerful tool for teaching character, integrity, and resilience. He saw sports not just as competition, but as preparation for life.
“Kevin had an extraordinary ability to see potential in every student,” the school shared in a statement. “He made each individual feel valued, respected, and capable.”
From young students to longtime colleagues, Kevin formed meaningful connections across the entire Salisbury community. His warm smile, steady guidance, and genuine care left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. He embodied the values of Salisbury School and what it meant to be a Salisbury Gentleman.
The outpouring of love following his passing—from former players, colleagues, friends, and families—has underscored the breadth of Kevin’s influence. While the loss feels immeasurable, those who knew him take comfort in the legacy he leaves behind: the lives he shaped, the confidence he instilled, and the love he gave so freely.
As the community grieves, prayers and condolences continue to pour in for Celina, Tim, Sara, and the entire Huber family, along with Kevin’s closest friends and colleagues.
Details regarding memorial services have not yet been announced. In the meantime, the Salisbury School community and all who loved Kevin Huber are united in remembrance of a man whose impact will never be forgotten.
