COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is reflecting with profound sadness following the passing of 48-year-old Lt. J. Bryan White, a highly respected veteran officer who peacefully transitioned after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Lt. White, whose law enforcement career spanned nearly three decades, was widely admired for his dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving the people of Ohio. The department announced his passing this week, prompting an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, state officials, and the broader community.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office wrote, “Lt. White served the citizens of Madison County with honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.”

A Distinguished Career Rooted in Service

Lt. White began his law enforcement journey in 1996 with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, laying the foundation for a career defined by leadership and compassion. His reputation for excellence quickly grew, and in 2008 he joined the Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

During his decade with BCI, Lt. White worked as a special agent investigating major felonies as part of the Crime Scene Unit. His contributions played a significant role in some of the state’s most complex and high-profile cases. Among his many honors, he was recognized in 2021 with the Attorney General’s Distinguished Law Enforcement Group Achievement Award for his outstanding work with the Pike County Rhoden Task Force.

Attorney General Dave Yost praised Lt. White’s life of service, saying, “Lieutenant Bryan White embodied the badge – he was the ultimate cop’s cop. His passing is a devastating loss to Ohio’s law enforcement community. I offer my deepest condolences to his wife, Janel, their family, and his colleagues at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and BCI.”

A Legacy That Will Continue to Inspire

Throughout his career, Lt. White was described by peers as a mentor, a leader, and a steady presence who approached every situation with professionalism and compassion. Beyond his official duties, he was known for uplifting younger officers and strengthening the agencies he served.

As the Madison County Sheriff’s Office mourns one of its finest, the department shared that funeral arrangements are still being finalized in coordination with Lt. White’s family.

His passing leaves a tremendous void in Ohio’s law enforcement community, but his legacy of service, character, and commitment will continue to guide those who had the privilege of working beside him.
