\u00a0In Loving Memory of Kacy J. Cunningham<\/strong><\/p>\n

With profound sadness, we remember Kacy J. Cunningham, 43, of Wolcott, Indiana, whose life was tragically cut short on August 12, 2026, following a serious two-vehicle crash in Benton County.<\/p>\n

According to preliminary information, the crash occurred at approximately 9:48 a.m. on westbound State Road 18 at County Road 1200 East, in an area where an INDOT construction project was underway. Benton County 911 received the report, and first responders were immediately dispatched to the scene.<\/p>\n

Kacy was driving a 2006 purple Toyota Scion and had stopped in the westbound lane of State Road 18 at the direction of an INDOT flagger. While the vehicle was stopped, it was struck from behind by a 2013 white Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Jacob A. Morris, 39, of Peru, Indiana.<\/p>\n

There were three people involved in the crash.<\/p>\n

When Benton County first responders arrived, they found Kacy unresponsive and not breathing. A passenger in Kacy’s vehicle, Nathan P. Christner, 40, also of Wolcott, was unconscious. Responders immediately began providing medical assistance and continued their efforts until Benton County EMS paramedics arrived.<\/p>\n

Despite the emergency response, Kacy was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.<\/p>\n

Nathan was transported to a local hospital for further medical care. His injuries were not immediately known. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and declined further treatment.<\/p>\n

The Indiana State Police crash reconstruction team was requested to assist with the investigation. Members of the Benton County Coroner’s Office also responded and began the difficult process of notifying Kacy’s family of the heartbreaking loss.<\/p>\n

State Road 18 at County Road 1200 East remained closed for a little more than two hours while investigators worked to document the scene, examine the vehicles, and determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.<\/p>\n

Several agencies and emergency personnel came together in response to the crash, including the Indiana State Police, Benton County Emergency Management, Benton County EMS, Benton County 911 Center, Jasper County EMS, Remington Fire Department, Otterbein Fire Department, Brookston Fire Department, Otterbein Police Department, and Fowler Police Department, along with the Benton County Coroner and Benton County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

For Kacy’s loved ones, however, the aftermath is far more than an investigation or a closed roadway. It is the painful beginning of a life without someone who mattered deeply to them.<\/p>\n

A sudden loss can leave behind countless unanswered questions and memories that return in unexpected moments. The ordinary things\u2014a familiar voice, a favorite place, a shared conversation, a laugh, or simply knowing that someone was there\u2014can become precious reminders of the person who is no longer physically present.<\/p>\n

Kacy’s life was much more than the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. Kacy was a son, a loved one, a friend, a neighbor, and a member of the Wolcott community whose absence will be felt by those who knew and cared for him.<\/p>\n

In the days ahead, family and friends will have to navigate the difficult journey of grief. There will be moments of sadness, disbelief, and longing, but there will also be memories\u2014memories that can never be taken away.<\/p>\n

Those who knew Kacy will carry pieces of his life with them: the moments shared, the experiences remembered, and the impact he had on the people around him. Though his life ended far too soon, the memories created during his 43 years will remain part of the lives of those who loved him.<\/p>\n

Today, we pause to remember Kacy J. Cunningham not simply as the victim of a tragic roadway collision, but as a person whose life had meaning and whose presence mattered.<\/p>\n

May his family and friends find strength in one another during this incredibly difficult time. May they find comfort in the memories they shared and in the knowledge that Kacy’s life touched others.<\/p>\n

As the investigation into the crash continues, additional information may be released by the Benton County Coroner or other investigating authorities.<\/p>\n

Rest peacefully, Kacy J. Cunningham.<\/p>\n
