Authorities reported that deputies had responded to the scene of an earlier traffic crash and were directing motorists safely around the area when another vehicle entered the scene. Deputy Serrato was struck by a heavy commercial vehicle while performing her duties to protect others from harm. Despite the efforts of emergency medical personnel and hospital staff, she later succumbed to her injuries.<\/p>\n<p>The heartbreaking incident also left Deputy John Hernandez injured. As he continues his recovery, the thoughts and prayers of the community remain with him, his loved ones, and every member of the Montgomery County Sheriff&#8217;s Office affected by this devastating tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Erika Serrato&#8217;s dedication to public service reflected her unwavering commitment to helping others. Through hard work, determination, and a genuine desire to make a difference, she answered the call to serve with honor, integrity, and compassion.<\/p>\n<p>Every shift she worked represented a promise to protect complete strangers, often placing herself in harm&#8217;s way so others could return home safely. It is a responsibility that few are willing to undertake, and Deputy Serrato embraced that responsibility with courage and professionalism. Her service exemplified the very best qualities of law enforcement\u2014a steadfast commitment to duty, selflessness, and an unwavering dedication to her community.<\/p>\n<p>Behind the uniform was a daughter, a family member, a friend, a colleague, and a woman whose kindness and determination touched many lives.
