Louisville, Kentucky — Norton Healthcare and the Louisville community are mourning the passing of Kelly C. McCants, M.D. of Louisville, who died on Friday, November 28, 2025. A devoted physician, mentor, and advocate, Dr. McCants dedicated his life to advancing cardiovascular medicine and promoting equitable healthcare, leaving a profound impact on patients, colleagues, and the city he called home.

Dr. McCants joined Norton Healthcare in 2018 and served as medical director of the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Advanced Heart Failure and Recovery Program. Under his leadership, the team expanded from eight to 36 caregivers, establishing one of Louisville’s most respected programs for patients facing complex cardiac challenges. His approach combined clinical excellence with compassion, ensuring patients not only received top-tier care but also felt understood, supported, and encouraged.
Championing Health Equity in Louisville
In addition to his work in cardiology, Dr. McCants served as executive director of the Norton Institute for Health Equity, where he led initiatives to improve access to care for underserved communities across Louisville. His leadership brought primary care services to historically overlooked neighborhoods, expanded mobile prevention programs, and contributed to the foundation of Norton West Louisville Hospital.
