NEW YORK — The West Sayville community is grappling with deep sorrow following a tragic domestic incident that resulted in the loss of 18-year-old Emily Finn on Tuesday morning, according to Suffolk County authorities.
Police reports indicate that officers arrived at the residence shortly after the teen’s parents contacted 911, alerting responders to an emergency situation involving two youths. Upon arrival, authorities found Emily unresponsive. She was pronounced deceased at the scene at approximately 11:10 a.m.
A 17-year-old male, identified as Emily’s former boyfriend, was discovered nearby with what investigators described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition under medical care.
Ongoing Investigation and Expected Charges
According to the Suffolk County Police Department, the male teen is expected to face a second-degree murder charge once doctors confirm he is medically stable to appear before the court. Detectives say the investigation so far suggests Emily had gone to the home to return his belongings following a recent reported break-in.
Lieutenant Kevin Beyrer, Chief of Suffolk County Homicide, told Greater Long Island that the encounter appears to have escalated suddenly, leaving the community stunned and heartbroken.
