In Loving Memory of Jonathan Allen Young
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we join the family, friends, coworkers, and the entire Cincinnati community in mourning the tragic loss of Jonathan Allen Young, whose life was cut short at the age of 46 following a heartbreaking crash while serving the public.
Jonathan’s passing is a tremendous loss to all who knew him. He was more than a dedicated employee of the City of Cincinnati—he was a hardworking, dependable, and compassionate individual who took great pride in serving his community. Every day, he worked to help keep Cincinnati’s roads safe and its infrastructure functioning for the benefit of countless residents. His commitment to public service reflected his character: selfless, responsible, and always willing to put the needs of others before his own.
According to authorities, Jonathan was working alongside fellow members of the City’s Department of Public Services on Thursday afternoon as part of a scheduled traffic project along the westbound lanes of State Route 562, also known as the Norwood Lateral. During the operation, a Metro bus reportedly struck a city maintenance pickup truck from behind. The force of the collision pushed the truck into the trailer of another maintenance vehicle, creating a devastating chain-reaction crash that claimed Jonathan’s life and forever changed the lives of those who loved him.
The tragedy serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks faced every day by road crews, maintenance workers, and public service employees who work tirelessly to improve and maintain the safety of our communities. These men and women often perform their duties in dangerous conditions, placing themselves close to moving traffic so that others can travel safely. Jonathan made that sacrifice in the course of faithfully carrying out his responsibilities.
