According to the Henrico Police Division, officers responded at approximately 4:06 p.m. to the 4400 block of East Williamsburg Road in the Varina District following reports of a single-vehicle crash. Upon arriving at the scene, officers located a 2001 Honda CR-V overturned off the right side of the roadway.

John, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, was trapped inside following the crash. Henrico Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and, despite their efforts, sadly pronounced him deceased at the location.

Henrico Police Crash Investigators later identified the victim as John Williams, 58, of Henrico.

The preliminary investigation indicates that John was traveling westbound on Williamsburg Road when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, struck a culvert and then a tree, causing the SUV to overturn. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine what factors may have contributed to this tragic incident.
