The El Dorado community is mourning the loss of a woman whose life mattered, whose presence brought comfort and companionship to many, and whose memory will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched. While words can never fully capture the pain of such a heartbreaking loss, they can serve as a reminder of the love, kindness, and lasting impact Markivia leaves behind.
According to authorities, officers with the El Dorado Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near Main Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on the evening of June 24. Upon arrival, they discovered Markivia suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency efforts and medical treatment at Baptist Health Medical Center–El Dorado, she later succumbed to her injuries.
The devastating news of her passing has sent shockwaves throughout the community. Family members, friends, and neighbors have been left grappling with grief while trying to make sense of an unimaginable tragedy. As investigators worked tirelessly to determine what happened, detectives identified 20-year-old Ronald Pierce of El Dorado as a suspect. Following the investigation, Pierce was taken into custody without incident and was later charged in connection with the case.
Yet amid the details of the investigation and the headlines surrounding the tragedy, those who knew Markivia want the world to remember something far more important: her life, her spirit, and the love she shared with others.
Markivia was more than a victim of a senseless act of violence. She was a daughter, a family member, a friend, and a cherished member of her community. She carried dreams, hopes, and aspirations. She shared laughter with friends, created memories with loved ones, and built meaningful connections that will not be forgotten.

Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or simply her presence, Markivia had a way of making people feel valued and appreciated.
