In Loving Memory of Edwin Ramiro Caal, Ricardo Chub, and Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we remember and honor the lives of three men whose journeys ended far too soon in a tragic accident on the waters of Highlands County, Florida. Edwin Ramiro Caal of Guatemala, Ricardo Chub of Guatemala, and Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes of Mexico lost their lives following an airboat accident on June 15, 2026, leaving behind grieving families, friends, and communities who will forever cherish their memories.
What began as a journey along the waterways leading toward the Kissimmee River became an unimaginable tragedy. As seven individuals traveled together aboard an airboat, the vessel reportedly began taking on water after entering a deeper section near the Istokpoga Canal. Within moments, all seven occupants were thrown into the water. While four people were able to make it safely back to shore, Edwin, Ricardo, and Jesus remained missing, prompting an extensive search effort by first responders from across Highlands County.
Despite the determination and tireless work of rescue crews who searched throughout the day, the outcome was heartbreaking. The three men were later found deceased, leaving countless loved ones to face a loss that words can scarcely describe.
Today, we pause not to focus on the tragedy itself, but to celebrate the lives of Edwin, Ricardo, and Jesus—three individuals whose stories mattered, whose lives had meaning, and whose memories deserve to be honored.
Edwin Ramiro Caal will be remembered by those who knew him as more than a name in a news report. He was a son, a relative, a friend, and a valued member of his community. He carried dreams, aspirations, and hopes for the future. His life was filled with experiences, relationships, and moments that shaped the person he became. Though his time on earth was cut short, the love he shared and the memories he created will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
Ricardo Chub’s passing leaves an irreplaceable void in the lives of his family and friends. He was a man whose presence mattered deeply to those around him. Whether through acts of kindness, shared laughter, hard work, or simple companionship, Ricardo touched lives in ways that will never be forgotten. His legacy lives on through the people who knew him best and the countless memories they will continue to carry forward.
Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes is also remembered with love and respect. His life was a story of perseverance, relationships, and experiences that shaped those fortunate enough to know him. To his family, he was a beloved son and relative. To his friends, he was someone whose presence brought comfort, friendship, and connection. Though his physical presence is gone, his memory remains alive in every story shared and every moment remembered.
The loss of these three men extends far beyond their immediate families. It is felt across communities, across borders, and among all who understand the pain of losing someone they love. Their passing serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment we are given with those who matter most.
As loved ones gather to mourn, they also gather to remember. They remember smiles, conversations, celebrations, struggles overcome, and dreams pursued. They remember the unique qualities that made Edwin, Ricardo, and Jesus who they were. While grief may feel overwhelming today, those treasured memories will remain a lasting source of comfort in the years ahead.
The efforts of first responders, emergency personnel, and members of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reflect the deep commitment to serving communities during times of crisis. Their dedication during the search operation demonstrated compassion and professionalism in the face of a heartbreaking situation.
On behalf of all who have been touched by this tragedy, we extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Edwin Ramiro Caal, Ricardo Chub, and Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes. No words can fully ease the pain of such a loss, but we hope they find strength in one another, comfort in cherished memories, and peace in knowing that their loved ones will never be forgotten.
Though their lives ended far too soon, the impact they made remains. Their stories continue through the people they loved, the lives they touched, and the memories that will forever be held close by those who knew them.
May Edwin Ramiro Caal, Ricardo Chub, and Jesus Manuel Garcia Reyes rest in eternal peace. May their families find comfort during this difficult time, and may their memories forever be a blessing to all who knew and loved them.
Gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
Forever remembered. Forever loved. Forever missed.
