With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we join the family, friends, and the entire East St. Louis, Illinois community in mourning the heartbreaking loss of five beloved family members whose lives were tragically taken far too soon: Cherie May, 49; Devin May, 24; Patricia May, 74; Quentin Thompson, 21; and Shania Thompson, 25.

Their sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved them. What should have been another day spent making memories with family has instead become a day marked by unimaginable grief, sorrow, and heartbreak.

According to Illinois State Police, the tragic incident unfolded during the early hours of Sunday across three different locations, including Jones Park. Authorities reported that seven people were struck by gunfire during the violence. Five precious lives were lost, while two other victims continue to fight for recovery in critical condition.

The loss is especially devastating because all five victims were members of the same family. No words can truly capture the pain of losing multiple generations of loved ones in such a tragic and sudden way. Their family now faces an overwhelming journey of grief, surrounded by the support, prayers, and compassion of an entire community.
