FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville community is responding to a serious incident at the Motel 6 on the 3700 block of Bragg Boulevard Wednesday evening, where a man passed away following an altercation. Officers arrived at the scene around 6:10 p.m. and found the individual in critical condition. He was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The man has been identified as 47-year-old Perry Lamont Sykes. Authorities reported that 24-year-old Chandon Cornelius Taylor was involved in the incident. Taylor attempted to leave the scene but was quickly located nearby and taken into custody without incident.

Charges and Custody

Taylor has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in Cumberland County Detention Center with no bond. Police confirmed that the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
