With profound sadness, family, friends, and the Statesboro community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Ja’Nyah Everett, 23, of Statesboro, who lost her life in a single-vehicle crash in Bulloch County on Sunday evening, August 9, 2026.
Ja’Nyah’s life was tragically cut short, leaving behind loved ones who are now facing the unimaginable pain of saying goodbye to someone whose life still held so much promise. At just 23 years old, she had so much ahead of her, and her sudden passing has brought tremendous sorrow to everyone who knew and cared for her.
The crash happened at approximately 7:12 p.m. Sunday near Old River Road South and Old Flat Ford Road in Bulloch County. Bulloch County 911 quickly dispatched emergency personnel to the scene, including Bulloch County EMS, Bulloch County Fire, deputies with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, and troopers with the Georgia State Patrol.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the devastating aftermath of the crash. Ja’Nyah, who had been driving a Honda Accord, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Bulloch County Coroner Chuck Francis. Authorities confirmed that her next of kin was notified Sunday night.
According to preliminary information from Georgia State Patrol Post 45, Ja’Nyah was traveling northbound on Old River Road South near Fonnie Knight Road when her vehicle entered a curve. Investigators reported that the vehicle was traveling at a speed that was too fast to safely negotiate the curve.
The Honda Accord subsequently left the roadway and overturned.
Two children were also inside the vehicle and were ejected during the crash. Thankfully, emergency responders were able to transport both children to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, where they received medical attention. Their injuries were described by Georgia State Patrol as non-life-threatening.
While the children survived the crash, the loss of Ja’Nyah has left a deep void.
Investigators reported that Ja’Nyah was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and the juveniles were not properly restrained in approved child safety seats. These details remain part of the preliminary investigation being conducted by the Georgia State Patrol.
Old River Road South was temporarily closed in the area as troopers worked to document the crash scene, gather evidence, and determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. The roadway reopened at approximately 9 p.m.
