In Loving Memory of Giovani Castillo

With profound sadness, we remember and honor the life of Giovani Castillo, whose life was tragically cut short in a shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. His passing has left family members, friends, and all who knew him grieving an unimaginable loss, while the community searches for answers and justice.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers responded at approximately 4:15 a.m. to reports of a shooting near an alley in the 600 block of South 3rd Street in Louisville’s Central Business District. When officers arrived, they found Giovani suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite officers immediately providing first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived, he was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

A few hours later, police were notified that another adult male had arrived at UofL Hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg. Detectives later determined that the injured man had also been present at the location of the fatal shooting. Investigators continue working to determine the relationship, if any, between the two victims and what circumstances led to the violence.

The Louisville Metro Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case. At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified, and investigators are asking anyone with information, surveillance footage, or video recorded in the area to come forward to assist in the investigation. Every piece of information, no matter how small it may seem, could help bring clarity to what happened and provide answers for Giovani’s loved ones.

While the investigation continues, those who knew Giovani are left mourning a life taken far too soon. The pain of losing someone unexpectedly is immeasurable, and the void left behind can never truly be filled. Though the circumstances surrounding his passing are heartbreaking, those closest to him will continue to remember him for the moments they shared, the memories they created together, and the impact he had on their lives.
