It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we remember Zaeem, a 17-year-old young life whose journey came to an unexpected end following a tragic moped crash in New London, Connecticut.

At just 17 years old, Zaeem had so much life still ahead of him. There were undoubtedly dreams waiting to be pursued, memories yet to be made, places yet to see, and moments that his family, friends, and loved ones had hoped to share with him. His passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly life can change and how deeply the loss of a young person can affect an entire community.

According to the New London Police Department, the crash occurred Sunday evening in the area of Ocean Avenue and Beech Drive, shortly after 5:00 p.m. Zaeem was riding a moped when the collision involving the moped and a truck occurred.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 5:10 p.m. and immediately began providing care to the young rider. Zaeem was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, where, despite efforts to help him, he was pronounced deceased.

Because Zaeem was only 17 years old, New London police did not publicly release his identity, in accordance with department policy. His loved ones, however, will forever know the young person behind the name—a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, classmate, and cherished member of a family whose life will never be the same.

The pain of losing someone so young is difficult to put into words. Seventeen is an age filled with possibility. It is a time when young people are beginning to discover who they are and imagine what their future might hold. The driver of the truck remained at the scene, according to police. Authorities said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
