IN LOVING MEMORY OF A PRECIOUS FIVE-YEAR-OLD
Linkwood, Maryland — August 11, 2026
With profound sadness, a Maryland community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a five-year-old girl whose young life came to an unimaginable end in an early-morning incident in Dorchester County.
Early this morning, the Maryland State Police Easton Barrack responded to a residence in the 3900-block of Ocean Gateway in the Linkwood area following a report of a shooting. Troopers arrived at approximately 2:17 a.m., where they discovered two individuals suffering from injuries believed to have been caused by gunfire.
Among the victims was a five-year-old female child. Despite the efforts that followed, she sadly did not survive her injuries.
Her passing leaves behind a sorrow that words can hardly describe. At only five years old, she had so much life ahead of her—so many days to experience, memories to make, dreams to discover, and moments that should have been filled with the simple joys of childhood. Her life was far too short, but the value of her life is not measured by the number of years she was given. Every child leaves a special imprint on the hearts of those who love them, and that imprint can never be erased.
A second victim, a 30-year-old man, was also found at the residence suffering from suspected gunshot wounds. He was transported by the Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a local trauma center for medical treatment. His condition has not been provided in the information released.
Investigators with the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene as authorities began working to understand what happened and determine the circumstances surrounding this devastating incident. Crime Scene Technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division also processed the scene, carefully gathering and documenting evidence that may help investigators piece together the events.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
As investigators continue their work, the thoughts of many are with the child’s family, loved ones, friends, and everyone who knew and cared for her. Losing a child is a pain no family should ever have to endure. There are no perfect words for such a loss, and no explanation can make the heartbreak disappear.
A five-year-old should be remembered for the joy and innocence that surrounded her childhood—not for the circumstances that brought her life to an end.
Today, we remember a little girl whose life mattered.
We remember the smile she may have shared, the laughter she brought into the lives of others, the little moments that made her special, and the memories that her loved ones will carry with them forever. Though her time on earth was brief, the love surrounding her was real, and that love will remain.
May her family find strength in the days ahead. May they be surrounded by compassion, support, and people willing to stand beside them through the difficult journey of grief. May the memories of happier days provide comfort when the pain feels overwhelming.
There will always be questions surrounding a tragedy like this, and there will be a need for answers. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and anyone who may have information that could assist investigators is encouraged to come forward.

For now, let us remember the child at the heart of this tragedy with dignity and compassion.
Five years may seem like such a short time, but within those five years were countless moments that made her life meaningful. Her presence mattered. Her life mattered. Her memory matters.
May she be remembered not by the tragedy that took her from this world, but by the love she inspired and the memories she leaves behind.
Rest peacefully, little one. 🕊️
May your memory forever remain a blessing to those who loved you.
Gone far too soon, but never forgotten.
Our deepest condolences go out to her family, loved ones, and all those affected by this heartbreaking loss. May they find comfort, strength, and peace in the days ahead.
