Louisville, Kentucky — The Louisville community and Norton Healthcare are mourning the loss of Kelly C. McCants, M.D., who passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025. A Pioneer in Cardiac Care

Dr. McCants joined Norton Healthcare in 2018 and quickly became a cornerstone of the Norton Heart & Vascular Institute Advanced Heart Failure and Recovery Program. As medical director, he led the growth of the team from eight to 36 caregivers, establishing one of the region’s most respected programs for patients facing severe cardiac challenges. His leadership combined technical expertise with a compassionate, patient-centered approach, ensuring that individuals received not only advanced medical care but also hope and encouragement in the most difficult moments of their lives.

Championing Health Equity

Beyond his contributions to cardiology, Dr. McCants served as executive director of the Norton Institute for Health Equity, where he guided initiatives to remove barriers to care and expand access to historically underserved communities. His leadership brought primary care to neighborhoods that had long been overlooked, expanded mobile prevention services, and laid the groundwork for the creation of Norton West Louisville Hospital.
