In Loving Memory of Ryan Jae Baughn

With profound sadness, we remember Ryan Jae Baughn, 50, of Big Spring, Texas, whose life was tragically cut short following a serious single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 in Midland County.

Ryan’s passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving a loss that came suddenly and far too soon. At 50 years old, he had lived a life filled with memories, relationships, experiences, and moments that will continue to be cherished by those who knew him.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, on IH-20 near mile marker 145 in Midland County.

Preliminary information indicates that Ryan was driving a 2015 BMW X5 eastbound on the service road of IH-20. Authorities said the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed when Ryan attempted to enter the on-ramp leading onto IH-20.

During the maneuver, the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. Ryan attempted to regain control, but the vehicle continued across the eastbound lanes of the interstate.

The BMW crossed over the cable barrier and ultimately came to rest in the westbound lanes near mile marker 145, where the vehicle caught fire.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation. Officials have not determined whether Ryan was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

While investigators continue their work to understand exactly what happened during those early morning hours, Ryan’s loved ones are left to face the much more personal reality of losing someone who meant so much to them.

A traffic investigation can document roads, vehicles, distances, and circumstances, but it cannot capture the full story of a human life.

Ryan was more than the driver involved in a tragic crash. He was a person with a family, friends, memories, hopes, and a life that mattered. He was someone whose presence brought meaning to the people around him.

For those who knew Ryan, memories of him will now become even more precious. The conversations shared, the laughter, the ordinary days spent together, and the countless moments that may once have seemed routine can become treasured reminders of the person he was.

The suddenness of his passing may make the loss especially difficult to understand. There is often no opportunity to prepare for a tragedy like this, no chance to say everything that might have been left unsaid, and no way to turn back the clock.

But although Ryan’s life has ended, the memories he created will remain.

His family and friends may find themselves remembering the little things—the sound of his voice, his smile, his sense of humor, the places he enjoyed, the stories he told, and the moments that made him uniquely Ryan. These memories can become a lasting connection to someone who will always hold a special place in their hearts.

As the investigation continues, we should remember that behind every tragic headline is a human life and a grieving community.

This is a difficult time for Ryan’s loved ones, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and support as they process this heartbreaking loss. No family should have to learn that someone they love will not be coming home.

The Big Spring community and everyone who knew Ryan are now left with memories of a man whose life ended far too soon. Though no words can erase the pain of his passing, remembering him with dignity and compassion allows his life to be honored beyond the circumstances of his death.

May those closest to Ryan find strength in the memories they shared with him. May they find comfort in one another during the difficult days ahead. And may the love of family and friends help carry them through the grief that follows such an unexpected loss.

Ryan Jae Baughn was 50 years old.

His life was valuable.
His memories are precious.
His presence will be missed.
And his memory will remain with those who loved him.

May he be remembered for the person he was, rather than only for the circumstances surrounding his final moments.

Rest peacefully, Ryan Jae Baughn.

May your family find comfort in every beautiful memory, strength in every embrace, and peace in knowing that your life touched others.

Gone too soon, but never forgotten.
Forever remembered.
Forever loved.
May you rest in peace.
