In Loving Memory of Keith R. Havenstrite Jr.
WAYNE COUNTY, Pennsylvania — Today, family, friends, and members of the community mourn the heartbreaking loss of Keith R. Havenstrite Jr., 36, of Lake Ariel, whose life came to an untimely end following a head-on collision late Friday night in Salem Township.
Keith’s passing has left behind a profound sense of sadness for those who knew and loved him. At just 36 years old, he had so much life ahead of him, and his sudden departure is a painful reminder of how quickly an ordinary night can become a moment that changes many lives forever.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the crash happened at approximately 11:41 p.m. near Goose Pond Road along Hamlin Highway. Keith was traveling in a 2010 Subaru Impreza when his vehicle collided head-on with a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where they worked to assist those involved and secure the area. Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, Keith suffered injuries that proved fatal. Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell responded and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
The crash also injured two people traveling in the Jeep. The vehicle was driven by 51-year-old Kevin J. Martinell of Scranton, with 79-year-old Janet R. Roberts of Scranton as a passenger. Both were reportedly wearing their seat belts. Martinell sustained suspected minor injuries, while Roberts suffered suspected serious injuries. Both were transported by ambulance to Geisinger Community Medical Center for medical care.
As investigators worked to document the circumstances surrounding the collision, Hamlin Highway remained closed for approximately two hours. Behind the emergency response, however, was a much deeper human tragedy: a family was losing someone they loved.
Keith R. Havenstrite Jr. will be remembered not simply as the person named in a crash report, but as a son, brother, relative, friend, neighbor, and a person whose life touched others in ways that cannot be measured by a headline.
