In Loving Memory of Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins

The East Bernard community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of two people whose lives were deeply woven into the fabric of the community — Jeremy Jenkins, 51, and his wife, Brandy Jenkins, 46.

The couple died following a tragic single-vehicle crash Saturday night in Wharton County, leaving behind their three sons, Tyson, Gage, and Jake, as well as countless students, athletes, colleagues, friends, relatives, and community members who knew and loved them.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Jeremy was driving a 2025 Tesla Model Y northbound on State Highway 60 near County Road 210 at approximately 10:07 p.m. when the vehicle approached a curve. Investigators said the Tesla left the east side of the roadway and overturned.

Jeremy and Brandy were both pronounced dead at the scene.

Their passing has brought profound sadness to East Bernard at a time when the community should have been preparing with excitement for a new school year and another football season. Instead, students, educators, athletes, parents, and residents are facing an unimaginable loss.

Jeremy Jenkins was far more than a coach and athletic director. To many young people, he was a mentor, a leader, an encourager, and someone who helped shape their lives both on and off the field.

As East Bernard ISD’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Jeremy had dedicated himself to helping young athletes discover their potential. He was preparing to begin his third season leading the Brahmas, following a remarkable previous season in which East Bernard advanced to the Class 3A Division II state semifinals.

For the players who looked to him for guidance, the impact of his leadership went far beyond wins and losses. Coaches often become some of the most influential adults in a young person’s life, teaching lessons about discipline, perseverance, teamwork, responsibility, and character. Jeremy’s role gave him the opportunity to make those lessons part of the lives of generations of students.

His absence will therefore be felt in classrooms, locker rooms, athletic fields, hallways, and throughout the community he served.

Brandy was also becoming an important part of the East Bernard school community. She had recently joined East Bernard ISD as a junior high teacher, beginning a new chapter in a place where she and Jeremy were both contributing their time, energy, and hearts to young people.

Together, Jeremy and Brandy represented a family deeply connected to education and the community around them.

Their sudden passing has left a painful emptiness for everyone who knew them.

But perhaps the greatest measure of their lives is not found in their professional titles or accomplishments. It is found in the people they loved and the people whose lives they touched.

Jeremy and Brandy leave behind their three sons, Tyson, Gage, and Jake. For their children and loved ones, the days ahead will undoubtedly bring an overwhelming mixture of grief, memories, questions, and emotions.

No words can adequately express the pain of losing parents and loved ones so unexpectedly. In the midst of such sorrow, however, the family can be surrounded by the love and support of a community determined to stand beside them.

East Bernard ISD has made counseling and support available to students and staff as the school community comes to terms with the loss. Such support is especially important because Jeremy and Brandy were not simply members of the district — they were people whose daily lives were devoted to serving and encouraging young people.

For students who knew Coach Jenkins, the football field may never feel quite the same.

For colleagues who worked beside Brandy, the school halls may carry memories of conversations, smiles, lessons, and everyday moments that once seemed ordinary but now feel incredibly precious.

For friends and neighbors, there will be memories of the couple that remain long after the initial shock of their passing begins to fade.

And for their sons, family, and closest loved ones, their memories will become treasured reminders of the lives Jeremy and Brandy shared and the love they gave.

A tragedy like this reminds a community how quickly life can change. It also reminds us of the importance of cherishing the people around us, appreciating the moments we share, and holding tightly to the memories that cannot be taken away.

Jeremy’s legacy will live through the athletes he coached, the students he encouraged, the colleagues he supported, and the lessons he taught.

Brandy’s legacy will live through the students she was beginning to teach, the people she welcomed into her life, and the family and friends who knew her heart.

Their story will also live through their children, who carry forward the love, memories, and values their parents gave them.

As East Bernard mourns, the community is reminded that grief does not belong to one family alone. When people dedicate their lives to serving others, their loss is shared by everyone whose life they touched.

The Brahmas community will remember Jeremy not only for the football seasons and accomplishments, but for the person behind the whistle — the coach who stood on the sidelines, the athletic director who helped guide a school program, and the mentor who had the opportunity to influence young lives.

Brandy will be remembered as a wife, mother, teacher, friend, and member of a community she had only recently begun serving but was already becoming part of.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, according to DPS. As investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, the East Bernard community is left to mourn and remember two lives that ended far too soon.

Tonight, countless hearts are heavy.

A family is grieving.

A school district is grieving.

A football program is grieving.

And an entire community is grieving.

May Jeremy Jenkins and Brandy Jenkins be remembered not simply for the tragic circumstances of their final moments, but for the many years, relationships, achievements, acts of kindness, and memories that defined their lives.

May their three sons, Tyson, Gage, and Jake, be surrounded by love and strength in the difficult days ahead.

May their family find comfort in the memories they shared.

May their students and colleagues find peace in remembering the difference they made.

And may the East Bernard community continue to come together to support one another through this heartbreaking loss.

In loving memory of Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins.

Two lives deeply loved.

Two lives that touched many others.

Two lives that will never be forgotten.

May their memory forever remain a blessing to their family, friends, students, athletes, colleagues, and everyone fortunate enough to have known them. 🕊️💔
